Exotic pet legality is genuinely hard to research: rules live in state statute, administrative code, agency policy, and municipal ordinance, and they contradict each other constantly.
This directory models the problem honestly. Each species-state pair is a record with a legal status, a citation, a permitting agency, and a date it was last verified — so a user can check the primary source rather than trusting the site.
Where the law is genuinely ambiguous, the entry says so instead of guessing, which is the difference between a reference and a liability.
Where the effort went
The interesting part of Exotic Pet Laws was never the page templates. It was coverage at all 50 states, and getting the underlying model right so the product stays correct as it grows. That is the part we care about, and it is the part that determines whether something like this is still useful in a year.
It runs on infrastructure the owner controls — source in GitHub, deployment on Railway, DNS and CDN on Cloudflare — with no proprietary platform in the middle.
